Qtech™…A Contractor’s Best Option For On-Demand Training

Posted on:

Contractors are always asking for ways to provide quality training for their technicians that doesn’t require them to be away from the company. On-demand, online training is the answer to this request. While on-demand training has been around for years, there has been nothing targeted towards teaching technicians industry accepted practices, until now.

qtech-FINALACCA’s new Qtech™ program is the solution that contractors are looking for to get their technicians up to speed on the topics such as quality installations, home performance, and maintenance. The programs are built into short segments that are just 5 – 15 minutes in length, so that technicians can move at their own pace, on their own time, from any computer that has access to the internet.

Let’s look a little closer at the two course available to technicians.

Technician Field Practices for Quality Installation
The first program is built around ANSI/ACCA 5 QI-2015 HVAC Quality Installation Specification (QI Standard). The training equips technicians with the knowledge to properly implement the measurement and documentation procedures outlined in the standard.

After completing six hours of training, broken into short segments, technicians should be able to demonstrate how to:

  • Meet installation requirements for residential or light commercial HVAC systems
  • Do a point by point installation evaluation of a residential or light commercial HVAC system’s components
  • Document a residential or light commercial HVAC system installation

To help technicians fully understand the concepts in the videos, technicians signed up for the program can download an electronic copy of ACCA’s Technician’s Guide & Workbook for Quality Installation.

Once a technicians has completed the video training, they can then take a 50 question online exam and receive a certificate when they have passed it.

Home Evaluation and Performance Improvement
The second program is built around ANSI/ACCA 12 QH-2014 Home Evaluation and Performance Improvement (QH Standard). This training gives technicians a broad perspective on available HVAC measurement tools and includes instructions on measuring methods cited in the QH Standard.

After watching the six hours of training, technicians should be able to demonstrate how to:

  • Perform a whole home evaluation
  • Identify home improvements that will make a home more energy efficient
  • Organize all of the data required for any type of auditing procedure

This course also comes with a downloadable copy of ACCA’s Technicians Guide & Workbook for Home Evaluation and Performance Improvement to supplement the video training.

Once a technicians has completed the video training, they can then take a 50 question online exam and will receive a certificate when they have passed it.

Everyone Wins
One of the best things about the Qtech programs is everyone benefits from them.

The technician gets quality training that includes proof that they have gained the knowledge. Plus, technicians can who complete Qtech courses can earn CEUs from NATE; BPI; RESNET; RSES; and HVAC Excellence by submitting their certificates to the respective organizations.

Contractors will have highly trained technicians who are proficient in understanding and meeting industry recognized standards. Well trained employees also generally provide better service to customers, and will have fewer call-backs!

Which leads to the loyal customers. Well trained technicians are better able to solve customers’ problems, by offering them solutions most would miss. Resulting in happy comfortable customers who are more likely to recommend your company to their friends and family.

More to Come
This is just the start of this new on-demand, online training. ACCA is currently developing more Qtech courses that will cover other ACCA Manuals and ANSI recognized standards. The goal is to ensure that contractors have readily available training for their technicians that doesn’t require them to leave the company for an extended period of time, isn’t cost prohibitive, and can be done at their own pace when and where it is convenient
