Best of IE3: We Are Not Air Conditioning Contractors

It’s been over two years since IE3 launched, and can you believe that, since then, we’ve posted more than 400 articles online? From marketing tips to contractor interviews to technical troubleshooting techniques, we’ve covered the gamut. Each week we’re going to take a look back at one or two articles that really stand out as pieces that are worth a second (or fourth) look.
In the very first print edition of IE3, contractor Joe Nichter — president of Comfort Systems USA Southwest, and then-chairman of the industry’s trade association, ACCA — offered one of our more provocative opinion pieces. Its premise was simple: the days of “air conditioning contracting” are coming to a close, and the new day of “indoor environment professionals” has dawned.
“Top performers in our industry have already moved beyond HVACR to whole building services, energy management, and total service solutions for the indoor environment,” Nichter wrote. “HVACR is a key part of that strategy, but not the only part.”
