ENERGY STAR Verified HVAC Installation

Posted on:

ENERGY STAR is a brand that 90% of customers know, and one that influences their purchasing decisions. The ENERGY STAR Verified HVAC Installation (ESVI) Certificate stands on that brand recognition and adds credibility to your proposals.

When your clients want high efficiency equipment, you know that in order for it to perform as expected – you must devote time and talent to install it correctly.  The design, installation, and commissioning of the equipment, as well as its connected distribution system, is not easy. It requires technical education, special tools, expert tradecraft, and proper documentation (no job is finished until the paperwork is done, right?).

What sets the verified installation apart from the herd is compliance to the minimum standard for an HVAC quality installation, as specified in the nationally‐recognized ACCA 5 QI Standard (free PDF download at acca.org/quality).  The nationally recognized QI Standard is based on minimum code requirements, manufacturer’s instructions, and good industry practices – all the necessary elements to any quality HVAC system installation. But, these details are what is often lacking in our trade.  The ESVI Certificate confirms that the measurements you record and submit for review, meet the QI Standard’s tolerances, and your hard work is recognized with an ESVI certificate.

Differentiation

Sun Tzu wrote in the Art of War, “Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory. Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat.”

You may get more market share than your competition without marketing, but marketing without being different, is money spent to be a voice in the crowd… noise, no sales… defeat.

Differentiation is the process of distinguishing a product or service from others, to make it more attractive to a particular target market.  How are you different?  If your company is an ACCA Quality Assured (QA) contractor this means that you can offer your customer a simple way to show you provide what your competition cannot or will not.  You can provide a quality HVAC system installation.

Everybody Says They’re Better

It’s true.  Every salesman (or woman) claims they are better, faster, stronger… and cheaper.  But customers are not stupid. They know that no one can have it all.  Yet they don’t have a simple way to tell the claims from the promises. Until now.

Now you can offer an easy way for them to tell your promises from the other guy’s claims.  A quality installation certificate from ENERGY STAR or ACCA.  What could be easier? Your competition claims to design the HVAC system in accordance with the ACCA manuals… can they prove it?

You can.

Your competition claims to install the new system per the manufacturer specifications? You can prove it.

Contractors who want to set themselves apart need to offer what their competition cannot. The new ESVI program is one way for professional businesses to offer customers something unique. The ESVI certificate gives you prestige and your customer the peace of mind that you met ENERGY STAR installation requirements.

ACCA Approved as ESVI Program Sponsor

A benefit of becoming an ACCA QA accredited contractor is your ability to offer the ESVI Certificate to your customers! How? It’s easy!

As a Residential Service and Installation (RSI) accredited contractor, your staff can download the ACCA QI mobile app, set up your My ENERGY STAR Account (MESA), and start submitting projects to receive the ESVI certificate. (You can review the orientation online – at acca.org/qa/resources).

If you are ACCA accredited for New Homes… all you need to do is watch the online orientation and pass the online quiz. There is NO EXTRA COST.

Additionally, your staff can watch the RSI orientation videos too. Only one leader in the company needs to pass the quiz. After the quiz has been passed, your company will be RSI accredited and your team will be able to download and use the mobile app, create your online MESA account, and submit the projects you want for an ESVI Certificate. (Only the projects you designate to be submitted for an ESVI certificate will be reviewed. Additionally, you can use the mobile app to create digital records for your other installations and evaluate your team’s performance.)

Learn more about ESVI and the ACCA QI Mobile App in the RSI Orientation at acca.org/qa/resources.

(If your company is only accredited for New Homes… all you need to do is watch the online orientation and pass the online quiz. There is NO EXTRA COST.)

Need Help?

ACCA has free videos that walk you through how to use the app. Visit acca.org/qa/resources, it is

just below the RSI orientation videos.

Need technical help? We have that too.  ACCA’s online training is available 24/7, and walks a technician through the installation and distribution aspects of the ACCA 5 QI Standard. If you want to learn more about qTech training and the certification you can earn, visit the website at http://www.acca.org/certification/qtech.
